Steel Brown

Guys, my horse is brown!

I have never personally seen a gray horse turn brown. To be honest, I expected him to really gray out this summer and turn white. So this is an unexpected turn of events. I know it’s just his dark hair fading in the sun but I am still getting a kick out of the whole thing.

First it was just his ears and I thought maybe he was just dirty.

But then I came out one day and I had a brown horse! Lots of people asked me what color he was at the show as he looks like a roan.

Apparently this is not that uncommon. We came home from the show and the boy pulled out several old Bloodhorses to show me stallion and racing pictures of sun-bleached gray horses. I guess I have just not been paying enough attention!

GusFirstShow_14I hope he turns dark again this winter. I want a  few months with him being all pretty steel gray before he turns white.

  1. I love the look on his face in the first picture. It doesn’t matter what colour he is, he’s still a good looking horse!

    1. Thanks! I’ll admit it’s really pretty when it’s clean but he tends to just look really dirty coming out of the field. 🙂

  2. i actually kinda dig how he looks right now! young gray horses are maybe among my favorite bc of their dramatic coloring… but idk if i love the end result as much. of course color is as color does, right?

  3. Normally the longer they take to turn gray the longer they stay gray before going white (when older).. You have a good amount of time before he is white 🙂

My 2 yr old has that same reddish color to him!! I know one day he will be gray but am glad I’ll have him gray for a long time!!
