NWEC and TJCTIP

I’ve just gotten news that Area VII has lost one of our events and one of my favorite places to school: North West Equestrian Center (NWEC). The property has been on the market for quite some time, I gather, and has finally been sold to a conservation group. All the portable jumps are currently for sale and I know the Washington State Horse Park is trying to purchase at least the preliminary set to help further along their own courses.

Still, it’s quite sad news. That’s two events that are being taken off our calendar this year. This is the place we took Dandy last year to go non-compete and I was kind of hoping this year we could bring him back for the real thing. NWEC was a great place for green horses and riders as the XC course was open with lots of places to gallop. Their water complex had just about everything you could ask for. Area VII will miss this place.

In other sad news that I didn’t know where to place so it might go well here… I just found out that unlike last year (which had four of the local Washington horse trials, plus a few jumping shows and an open breed show), there are only two shows that are listed for the Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program. This makes me so sad. This year we only that the open breed show and the “Thoroughbred”* Only show. In Oregon, Inavale was listed along with a dressage show. I don’t know if the shows didn’t apply again or if they got denied by the program.  I was really hoping to be able win one of those pretty ribbons and saddle pads this year (or, have JLE win me one…) but it looks like it’s not to be.

* I put Thoroughbred in “ ” because they changed it to included half-thoroughbreds last year which does not, in my opinion, a Thoroughbred ONLY show make. Doesn’t mean I won’t go to it this year though. J
