My Whole 30 Try

I am one week into the Whole 30 diet and I am truly shocked by the results. I have lost 9 lbs! In seven days. This is really just insane to me. I know that it goes against the spirit of the diet to actually step on the scale but, and I’m sorry, I’ve given up chocolate, dairy, alcohol… I need something to keep me motivated. Seeing the weight drop away is that motivation. I also know that I won’t keep losing at this rate, but for now it is extremely satisfying. Only 6 lbs from my target goal.

Nothing about this lifestyle change has been easy though. For one, I actually hate cooking and making all your meals from scratch takes a lot of time. For the most part, our dinners were already Whole 30 compliant (lots of meat and veggies) but I’m shocked at how much I’ve had to cut out of my normal diet. Not being able to have a proper taco with cheese and tortillas has been a major downer.

We have found some really delicious Whole 30 compliant recipes however. I think my favorite is eggs over easy with avocado and hash browns. YUM! In fact, my chore tonight is to peel, grate, and freeze all the potatoes I bought at Costco so that I have hash browns at the ready. I also made a really, really yummy raspberry vinaigrette so my other go to quick meal is a salad with strawberries and that vinaigrette.

I can tell you that I am not going to be sticking with this diet indefinitely – I like chocolate and the occasional glass of wine too much – but I will probably try to keep eating healthier after my 31 days are over. When I can, I’ll try to choose healthier options and maybe try some “paleofied” versions of my favorite foods.

  1. Way to go! We’re on our third round of Whole30 and I’m always impressed by how much it helps me break unhealthy habits and make better decisions about food. I really like it, because I like cooking and planning, but I totally feel your pain on tortilla-less tacos. 🙁

  2. I’m doing my second round of Whole 30 and I hate it just as much as last time. But it certainly does work: I’ve lost 12 lbs since December. I also miss cheese a lot, but I miss soda the most.

  3. I might have to look into this. I’m going to try to do 21day fix but between travel and various other reasons I haven’t stuck to it very well 🙁 good job!

    1. I thought that would be the easiest one for me because I don’t eat a lot of it but it’s been hard! I eat a lot more or it than I thought

  4. My biggest issue with these diets is the time that it takes to prep and make things. I am a “throw everything into the crock pot” type of cooker, and then I have meals for the next week or so. Plus I don’t think I could give up tacos. Ever.
