First One Day

I’ve got Rolex streaming on the tv but, to be honest, it’s not making me feel much better (though it is inspiring). Dandy was a complete ass the other day. When I asked him to walk around the outdoor he gave me a huge middle finger and went up on his back feet. This wasn’t like last time where he was frustrated and didn’t understand what I wanted, only doing a little hop. This was a full on ‘eff you.’ So he got his butt kicked into gear on the lunge line and I did get back on and walk him around the arena. The only problem is now I’m scared and upset and I don’t even want to go see him today.

So I’m not going to. He can take a day off and so can I.

Instead enjoy some recent videos and pictures of the pups!

In other (happy) news: I just sent in the registration for my very first horse trial! It’s a one day event put on by the Baywood Pony Club at the Northwest Equestrian Center. It’s on the 18th of May so I’ll have three weeks to prepare us for it.

We’re doing the “hopeful” division with a max of 2′ on the jumps. Dandy’s going to be annoyed at the lack of height but I really want to get him out at a show and go through a little event before I tackle a BN course. He was so naughty at his first jumping show but an angel at the dressage schooling show last fall so I really don’t know what to expect from him. Though after yesterday I almost decided to scratch. Still, I think this will be a really good experience for the both of us. I am sort of excited. Hopefully that grows in the next few weeks.

  1. 🙁 I remember the first time Charlie reared on me. I was scared, intimidated, angry…I guess what I’m trying to say is I know how you feel and it sucks. The important thing is you got back on and things will get better. Maybe he’s still adjusting from the move…at least you have the (adorable!) pups to make you smile when Dandy is on your shit list 🙂

    1. Thanks, Lauren. It’s just so hard because that is the one thing I can’t deal with on horses. Bolting, fine. Bucking, fine. Rearing scares me more than anything. But we took care of this before and we can do it again. Thank you for the encouragement!

  2. Ugh that sucks. Bad Dandy! He’ll settle down though. Could you do a calming paste in the meantime? It might not fix his issues, but it could make you feel better about them and not be as scared that he may go up.

  3. Gosh even hearing about a horse rear makes me grind my teeth in frustration. So naughty! The big middle finger like you said. But it sounds like you addressed it immediately and aggressively. It is rattling, though, and there’s nothing wrong with a day off. BTW your puppies are SOOO CUTE!!

    1. I think I did the right thing. I’m feeling much better today after talking to my old trainer and have even more ideas to handle it. Just so not cool.

Thankfully I have my puppies to put a smile on my face.

  4. Ugh bad boy Dandy! I hope that he shook his brain back in place and doesn’t pull that stunt again!

Good for you for getting back on and dealing with him. 🙂

Keep your head up! You have both had a big life changing move!
